Peacekeeper

In the land of Sem, nobles not only control the wealth, they hold a monopoly on the waning psychic abilities that their ancestors used to wield. Those with the most powerful abilities are destined to become Peacekeepers, working directly for the Empress and the Peacekeeper Council, who govern the kingdom in tandem. Lori, a teen-aged servant, is horrified to find that she is developing Peacekeeper powers, something unheard of for a commoner. She is grudgingly accepted into the Peacekeeper Academy, but her presence is met with incredulity and disdain. The instructors have no patience for her lack of education and refinement. The other students ridicule and torment her, knowing that they can get away with picking on a mere servant.

Bound by law to serve the Academy, Lori must overcome the prejudice of the nobles at the Academy and her own preconceptions about the upper class, or she will have her powers removed and be thrust back into a life of servitude. Slowly, Lori begins to make a place for herself at the Academy, finding allies among the instructors and friends among the students. However, all of that is jeopardized when she is sent to uncover a plot against the Empress and given an ultimatum by the Council: succeed in the mission or have her powers stripped.
