2009: Oh, What A Year It Will Be

I did the entry looking back at 2008. This one is about looking forward to 2009. It's resolution time and I've got a few more than last year.

Writing

  • Write a novel and/or 50,000 words each month (same as last year since I didn't quite make my goal)

  • Fill up that "Finished" category. That is, do major edits on my novels in revision. I want at least five novels that I'd classify as submission quality.

  • Win NaNo WriMo again.

  • Read at least a novel a month. It really does help my writing when I read. It just puts me in a literary mindset.

  • Post regularly in the LJ.

Life

  • Buy a house. I've had it with my apartment. I want my own parking space (or a garage!), a washer and dryer, a dish washer (!), and a yard for my trouble-making dog. Besides, I've done the math and I could afford a place around here for not much more than I'm paying in rent. And it's good debt because I would have an asset that will (theoretically) gain value as I make payments. Despite the economy, it's still true that they're not making any more land, so land and houses will always be somewhat in demand.

  • Pay off my car. If I pay off my car loan this year, that's $200 a month I can put towards my student loan, and about $300 savings in interest. Plus, I just hate being in debt. They are making more cars and mine is losing value. Bad debt!

  • Join a group of some sort. Just one little group. It can meet once a week or once a month, but it has to be a place where I have a chance of meeting people with similar interests. In the real world. Online doesn't count. Must. Not. Punk. Out. But if I do, I'm joining eHarmony or Match.com (whichever is the non-homophobic one) in 2010.

  • Eat healthier. No, I don't care about losing weight. I like how I look and it'd just mean having to buy new pants again if I started losing weight. But I have noticed that if I eat better, I feel better. So, must eat more veggies, more red meat (more iron=less anemia, yay!), more fresh fruit. And I must cook more. Right now, the fanciest I get is throwing frozen vegetables and pre-cooked chicken into the rice cooker a minute or two before it's done. Tasty, but I should be able to do better. Hopefully, I'll feel more like cooking when I have more than a foot of uninterrupted counter space (house!).

So, that's it. Just a few simple resolutions. Of course, there are plenty of things I'd like to do that don't really count as resolutions: go to the renaissance fair(e?) with [info]kitty_bandit, get a raise at work, go on a real vacation, go on a date again, etc., but those things aren't entirely in my control so we'll just have to see. Happy New Year!
